    “Come Up Higher”

Just because, to date, we have not seen the full manifestation of our God ordained destiny as Christians, does not mean God did not provided the way and the means to that end or goal. Both have been available and before us, all this time. But…Like the Children of Israel in their wilderness, before ours, hardness of heart has made the journey to appropriate our full inheritance… unnecessarily long.
…Which, of course, is no surprise to God, and is…nothing new.

If we look in Exodus chapter 19; we see the profound and mind blowing offer God made, not just to Moses, but to ALL of the children of Israel, to come up higher on Mt. Sinai to meet Him and listen as He would speak to them.

If we read carefully in Exodus 19: and then go on into Exodus chapter 20… and even into Hebrews 12:, we find God gives instructions to the Children of Israel to sanctify themselves and then; wait until the trumpet sounds and only then; they could “Come Up” where God said He would speak to all of them.

To make a long story short; They refused God’s offer !! They made excuses …but the bottom line was… they flat out refused to come up the mountain and hear God’s voice as He had invited them to. Rather, scripture says: “they were fearful and stood on the lower part of the mountain and said to Moses; “you speak to us and we will listen, but let not God speak with us, lest we die”. So, call it what you will; hard hearts, disobedience, lack of trust…but the fact is; scripture says; ”The people stood afar off…” ”…and Moses drew near”.

To see this today is sad and yet, we must remember that from the beginning, all true Christians have had this choice, as it were, set before us, also. That is….”to Come up Higher” and to more intimate communication with God the Father and His Son through the Holy Spirit. Sadly, the response of many Christians today and back down the line parallels the refusal to “come up” of the Children of Israel of old.

The writer of Hebrews, in Chapter 12, has reminded us that we, like those Children of Israel of old, (…referring to the exact situation described in Exodus 19 and 20, ) …are come once again, as it were, to this same mount and we are reminded of their refusal as a warning to us; “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh.” Keep in mind this is a warning, in Hebrews 12:,  to Christians. We Christians have the same offer as it were, to “come up higher”. Only now it is, only, through Christ Jesus that we can enter into His rest and experience face to face, heart to heart intimacy with God, in the Spirit, by the Spirit.

To just be a child of God, is not our, total,  goal, as wonderful as being a child of God is…however, like Paul said; “not that I have attained the goal….but I press toward that goal”. Which is; “Christ in us, the hope of glory.” His life, His divine nature, fully manifest in and through us even to the stature and measure of Christ…mature, manifest Sons of God.

God’s offer for Christians, today, is still; “come up higher”…”To enter into His rest”; No more speaking our own words; or doing our own thing; rather…..; Speaking to Him, face to face, heart to heart in the Spirit, by the Spirit. Choosing His will, His words, His ways, and most importantly allowing Him to do His work in us and not trying to do it in our own strength.

We can but only choose to respond to His call…..only He can work in our hearts to change us from glory to glory. We can do nothing without Him.
