South Sudan (MNN) — In 1987, a brutal civil war decimated Sudan. Over 20,000 young boys fled their villages, walking a thousand miles before reaching a refugee camp in Kenya. About half of them died on the way. Read more here.

Today, Jason Woolford with Mission Cry says one of these men runs a ministry in South Sudan. “We’re in the works of getting to him 95,000 Bibles and Christian books for a refugee camp. He says people are in dire need of the Word of God. He told me that as they go to the Nile to get water (because they have nothing) that children and people are being eaten by animals and crocodiles. And he said, ‘It’s such a mess there: the poverty, the sickness.’ But he’s calling and crying out for the Word of God to these people. So we have an opportunity, we have Bibles, we have the Christian books. We just need the funding to get them there.”

Severe unrest continues to trouble South Sudan. Community-based violence killed thousands last year, and the United Nations fears the country could fall into a severe famine. Pray God would work in the country, and pray many would find hope in Jesus.
