While it would seem that there’s an enormous amount of opposition in the spirit realm lately, I don’t think that I can ever recall a time where there were so many of God’s sons and daughters enduring such opposition from the enemy upon their minds and their personal lives.

As soon as I opened my eyes one morning, I heard this passage of Scripture whispered by the Holy Spirit into my ears: “When you pass through the waters, I WILL BE WITH YOU, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you” (Isaiah 43:2 AMPC, emphasis mine).

Those of us who are feeling as though we’ve been drowning in the waters or the fires of this life (all of these things that look like obstacles to where the Holy Spirit is sending us) have an assurance from God that even if we find ourselves traversing places like these, He hasn’t abandoned us or left us there alone.

While I know that during these times it feels like He’s not there for us, nothing could be farther from the truth! He said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5 NKJV).

Building on the Right Foundation

The waters and the fires that we endure may seem like horrible things sent by the enemy, and while these things would probably deal a devastating blow to wood, hay, and straw, the only thing the waters and fire do to gold, silver and precious stones is enhance what they are (showing them off for all of the world to see)!

“But if anyone builds upon the Foundation, whether it be with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, the work of each [one] will become [plainly, openly] known (shown for what it is); for the day [of Christ] will disclose and declare it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test and critically appraise the character and worth of the work each person has done. “If the work which any person has built on this Foundation [any product of his efforts whatever] survives [this test], he will get his reward.” (1 Corinthians 3:12–14 AMPC)

Whatever Is Left

The fires will remove all of the impurities that remain in our personal lives, and the waters will wash away any remaining dirt or debris from us so that whatever is left comes forth like gold, silver, and the precious stones of His presence!

“But He knows the way that I take [He has concern for it, appreciates, and pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I SHALL COME FORTH AS REFINED GOLD [pure and luminous].” (Job 23:10 AMPC, emphasis mine)

While nobody enjoys being in the fire and the waters of this life’s issues and trials, if everything that’s built on the foundation of our lives is gold (God Himself), silver (His eternal redemption for our lives), and precious stones (His giftings and His ministry through us), then those trials cannot destroy us; they can only enhance and promote us!

“Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.

“But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.” (James 1:3–4 AMPC)

When we reach the other side of this junk that we’re dealing with, we’ll not only be stronger than we were before, but we’ll be fully developed and lack nothing! Just remember, WE’RE NEVER GOING THIS WAY ALONE, EVEN THOUGH IT MAY FEEL LIKE IT. HE’S ALWAYS WITH US!
