I Believe in Father Christmas
Cassandra Boyson
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights. James 1:17I was watching Miracle on 34th Street for the first time when I came upon a revelation. In the film, Kris Kringle fights to prove that he is who he claims. Meanwhile, people from all over the world rally around him wearing pins and hanging posters that proclaim, “I Believe!”In the final courtroom act, the argument is made that, like God, one cannot disprove the existence of Santa Claus. I thought that was a moving point and I loved that the existence of my Daddy God was used to make it, but I did not think much of it beyond that until I came to the final scene.

In it, a little girl who has been struggling with her belief in Santa Claus finds that he has miraculously given her everything she asked him for. “This is [what] I asked Kris for and he GOT IT for me!” she cries ecstatically. She then adds, “I guess there’s no doubt about it… He’s real!”

Father Christmas is REAL, my friends. Christmas means “more of Christ” or the “mass of Christ,” and, truly, the Father of the Christ child wants us to come together to have more focused enjoyment of the gift of His Son. Indeed, He is the Father Who, in His tender kindness, LOVES to present His dear children all around the world with the things they’ve asked for. At Christmas, He presents us with gifts of joy, peace and love as well as the very desires of our hearts. Yet, it is not only once a year that He visits us with these blessings, but all the year round

On December 25th, we not only celebrate the birth of the Father’s Son, but we receive blessings from the Father of Christmas Himself. And while He may not necessarily fly around the world upon his reindeer driven sleigh, He does visit the homes of all His dear children to fill them with His warmth and light and to gaze upon and dwell among the joyful scenes of the ones He loves so dearly

The Father loves Christmas. He delights in seeing us give generously and cheerfully wish one another a merry holiday season. When He sees the joy upon the faces of His children as they take part in Christmas celebrations, He sees His good will for the earth coming to pass. Moreover, He entreats us to ask Him for the things we long for that He may bless us in the giving, for that is among His favorite things to do. One of the most delightful sounds to reach His ears is one of His own crying, “I asked Him for this and He GOT IT for me!”

If you, then, though you are [imperfect], know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11

Therefore, I pose this question to you: Do you believe in Father Christmas? Will you invite Him to enter into your home this year? Perhaps, we might even entreat Him to remain beyond the delivering of blessings, that He may be present all through the holiday, into the new year and remain the most glorious part of the family thereafter.

Enjoy your holiday and may you be filled with the Spirit of Christmas!
